The Purpose of a Travel Itinerary
Why having a clear plan for your trip helps your visa application.
An itinerary shows the visa officer that you have a clear plan and genuine purpose for your visit to Canada.
Why Does an Itinerary Matter?
A travel itinerary demonstrates several things that visa officers care about:
Clear Purpose
It shows you know exactly why you are visiting and what you plan to do.
Defined Duration
It shows you have a specific timeframe and intend to leave when planned.
Financial Planning
It helps justify the funds you claim to have for your trip.
What Should Your Itinerary Include?
- Arrival and departure dates
- Cities or areas you plan to visit
- Accommodation plans (hotel names, staying with family, etc.)
- Key activities or events (family gatherings, conferences, sightseeing)
- Any domestic travel within Canada
You do not need a minute-by-minute schedule. A general day-by-day or week-by-week plan showing your intended activities is sufficient.
